Wrinkle Reduction

Wrinkles and lines appear on our face as we age due to repeated muscle movements.

We use a muscle relaxant that blocks muscle nerve signals. Injecting small quantities temporarily relaxes the muscles preventing the formation of new wrinkles and softening any existing lines.

Muscle relaxants can smooth out age-related wrinkles such as crows feet, frown lines or lines on the forehead.

The muscle relaxant is injected directly into the muscle that is producing the wrinkle. A process that generally takes between 15 and 30 minutes.

Once you have had the treatment you can return to your normal activities but should avoid bending for about four hours.

The full effects of treatment develop slowly over about 2 weeks Results may vary and occasionally a second dose is needed at this stage to gain the desired effect. The benefits usually last from 3 to 4 months.

To retain the desired effect further treatments are needed, usually three or four in the first year but, as the change becomes more permanent, booster injections may only be needed twice in the second year.

Although there is no evidence of harm the lack of studies means that we do not perform this treatment on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

As we use a muscle relaxant to treat wrinkles if you have a condition which affects the muscles (e.g. nerve damage, muscle weakness, Myasthenia Gravis or Bell's Palsy) we ask that you obtain your specialists advice before this treatment.

Patients who are currently being treated with amino glycoside antibiotics or spectinomycin should wait until they have completed their course of treatment.
